How London Made Me Antisocial and Insecure

I recently discovered insecurities that arise from living in big cities and what I’m experiencing during my solo travel. Just ten days into my journey, I’ve already learned so much about different cultures and, more importantly, about myself.

I anticipated some self-discovery, but I didn’t realize the extent of my own insecurities. This realization is largely influenced by my time (6 years including the pandemic) as a freelance video content creator in London, a city that has shaped much of my current mindset.

Big City Life vs. Village Life

Living in a big city like London comes with its own set of social norms. For instance, in London, you can go to a shop, grab what you need, use self-checkout, and leave without having to talk to anyone. This convenience creates an environment where being antisocial becomes the norm.

You walk down the street, and nobody pays attention to you. This anonymity can feel liberating, but it also fosters a sense of insecurity.
