London’s Downfall: From Crown Jewel to Urban Wasteland
On my way to catch a bus in central London’s Zone 2, I stumbled upon a sight at the bus stop: a grimy mattress tucked beneath the shelter, with a homeless individual sleeping on it as though it was the most natural thing in the world. Meanwhile, passersby went about their business, seemingly unfazed by the scene.
Capitalism at its best.
I’ve lived in this city long enough to gain a solid understanding of it. While it’s filled with endless world-class entertainment and opportunities, it’s not without its downsides. If you have enough money, you can live a life of luxury.
For the rest of us, a house 500 metres from the beach in Spain is more affordable than sharing a flat in Zone 2.
Every Londoner has a love-hate relationship with the city, yet we all wish to see it reach its former glory.
