My Ghostly Experience: Encounters from the In-Between
Nobody can convince me that when you die, that’s it. In this blog, I’m diving into some of my eeriest and most inexplicable experiences with the supernatural.
When did it all start?
Throughout my life, I have experienced some weird stuff, some of it very hard to explain rationally. As a child, I had dreams of seeing entities, ghosts, and demons. But well, a child’s fantasy is nothing new.
At the university, I stayed in a trailer park for a bit, and my trailer was moving from side to side, feeling like somebody was trying to drag it. This experience scared the hell out of me as it kept happening every night. You could say maybe someone was trying to prank me. Maybe.
Later on, I moved into a 100-year-old house where a woman had died naturally, she was mentally ill. I heard all sorts of noises at night until I got used to it. In the middle of the night, I was awakened by a sound that seemed like something metallic had fallen from the ceiling and hit the floor. In the morning, I have found nothing on the floor.
One time, my bathroom light turned on at 1 AM. I was scared out of my wits. The highlight was when the books on a bookshelf right above my bed fell on me at night. I knew I wasn’t welcome in that house, obviously!
I know it all sounds made up — I wish it were.
Years later, I moved into a London apartment, and the shelves fell around 1 AM. Months later, the mirror in my room fell but didn’t break.
It’s a bit darker both visually and content-wise, but I think it’s important to share these stories and hear about others’ experiences. I’d love to hear your stories in the comments too. Let’s get into it.
The Night of the Unlocked Door
A close friend of mine had a severe accident and ended up in a coma. This happened 7 years ago. He was in the hospital, and his doctors said he was practically gone, only kept alive by machines.
After visiting him, we went back to his home — a house with a garden where he lived with his girlfriend, and I had an apartment on the ground floor.
That evening, while we were all sitting around the table, we heard a key in the front door, like someone was trying to unlock it. The door wasn’t locked, so this was odd. We checked and found no one there.
My friends mentioned they’d been hearing similar noises all day — keys turning, doors opening and closing, but no one was ever there. We tried to brush it off, but it kept happening. Eventually, I ran to the door as soon as I heard it, but again, no one was there.
It was chilling.
The Mysterious Toy Incident
One day later, in the same room, I was talking with my friend’s in coma girlfriend. They had a bunny that liked to push a wooden toy horse with wheels. This toy was stable and balanced on the ground when suddenly it tipped over on its side, right in front of us.
I saw it partially from the side, but my friend saw it clearly. I looked at the toy, confused. I asked her, “What? The bunny tipped it?” She pointed in a completely different direction, and there was the bunny, in its cage, 7 meters away from us, just chilling.
There was no draft or rational explanation for it falling.
This incident felt like undeniable proof of something supernatural. To this day, I consider this the ultimate proof that ghosts can physically move objects when they try to communicate with you.
Usually, this happens when you’re sleeping or not looking, so it essentially just sounds like noises. However, I believe it also depends on how strong you are as a soul to be able to physically move objects in front of people’s eyes to give them the ultimate evidence.
Hearing and Smelling the Presence
A few nights later, I was sitting outside with another friend, the girlfriend’s sister. We were talking in the garden when we started hearing footsteps on the other side of a rocky wall which was dividing the garden (this was my friend in come creation).
It couldn’t have been a person because the whole garden was fenced. We then heard a branch crack under weight too heavy for a small animal.
What unnerved me was the sudden, strong smell of my comatose friend’s cologne. It was the middle of the night, and everyone else was asleep. I smelled it clearly and didn’t want to say anything, thinking I was going crazy. Then my friend mentioned she smelled it too. We were both freaked out and decided to go inside immediately.
The Eerie Silence After Death
My friend eventually passed away, and after he officially died, all these strange occurrences stopped. The noises, the physical disturbances — they all ceased. The only thing that lingered was the occasional smell of his cologne, but nothing as intense as before.
Reflections on the In-Between
I believe these experiences are linked to the concept of being in the “in-between,” a state between life and death. This state might explain why we experienced such tangible phenomena. It’s a bit like the movie *Ghost* where the spirit is caught between worlds, not yet realizing they are dead, still tied to their body.
Conclusion
These experiences were profoundly unsettling but also fascinating. If you’ve had similar encounters or any thoughts on this, please share in the comments. I’m keen to hear your stories and see if we can find common ground in these mysterious experiences.
