It is definitely a tough situation for all the freelancers during the Coronavirus outbreak. Not only in the UK but worldwide of course. However, we should not forget about the online world and its limitless posibilities. I am going to share some ideas with you in this article about creating content online and make the world see it. And of course making sales.

Everyone is watching videos right now

It is more important than ever to put your face online and create as much content as you can. I would strongly recommend to create videos when you think about creating any kind of content. Not only because I’m a videographer but because statistics are not faking it, you know.

54% of consumers want to see more video content from a brand or business they support

More than 500 million hours of videos are watched on YouTube each day.

I hope I don’t need to tell you how videos help you sell. They are much more powerful than photos or written word.

However, let’s not forget the other ways to create content online. Podcasts, e-books, audiobooks, blogs, guides. Let’s go step by step.

Why create an online course on Udemy?

Number one thing for everyone to do is to create an online course and publish it on Udemy. Why Udemy? Because it is the easiest way to publish a course and there are no hidden fees to it. They take percentage of money once you sell a course but otherwise you don’t pay anyting.

I’ve tried other platforms too but Udemy is definitely the best one out there.

Udemy has more than 50 million students registered.

I’ve created 3 courses so far and I have almost 5000 students enrolled on them. And I paid no promotion or anything like that for it. You can see them here.

I started with my specialty and created a course where I teach people how to talk to the camera and not to feel like total idiots. How to build your brand online and how to create and optimize a website on Wordpress.

I talk more about how to create a course for Udemy in this video. I also talk more about other things to do for boosting online presence. Don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE to my YouTube channel :)

If you need help editing your videos for your courses, you can get in touch with me. I’m here to help you. Write me to: nicole@nicoleven.com

Why not write an e-book?

Once you create an online course, you have the material for your e-book. Or you can do it other way around, so you can actually write an e-book first and then based on that, you can create an online course.

It is easier than ever to publish an e-book on Amazon Kindle. Once you write it in Google doc and structure the table of content, create a cover, then you are ready to publish your book within hours!

You can see my book right here. I’ve written a book on How to become a professional videographer.

Why not share your story with the world?

You think you have nothing to write about? B****t. Everyone has a story and you need to share it. Now it is the time. Were you waiting for the end of the world? Well now it’s here, so stop f*cking wasting your time crying and worrying but take action.

Who will read your book? How do you sell it? Don’t worry about this. You only need one person to change your life. You don’t need million of sales, you only need that one person who will want to hire you or support you or manage you or or or…

Of course I wouldn’t recommend to price your first book for more than £5 unless you have some kind of name.

How to create audiobook?

It is like a domino. Once you have the e-book, you can easily create an audiobook. Just read your book to your phone, record the chapters and publish. Make sure you are in a quiet room and you hold your phone close to your mouth. If you need help editing the recordings, again write me to my email: nicole@nicoleven.com.

Is podcast a good idea?

Basically, it can be your preparation for your first audiobook or it can be the audiobook itself. Either way it is a good way to put yourself out there in any kind of online or audio-visual form.

I have my podcast Girl with a camera which is published and free for everyone. I talk about my videography career when I was employed and also now when I’m freelancing. I share funny stories, my mistakes, difficult situation and basic problems of freelancers. You can listen to it here:

I’ve also created a link if someone wants to pay for products I share for free because they find it valuable. The link is: https://www.paypal.me/NicoleVenVideos

Start a YouTube channel

Don’t tell me you have no YouTube channel. Well, if it’s true, now is the time to get it done. The biggest mistake, though, is to think that you will upload your videos and they will get tens of thousand views in few days. And if they don’t because they won’t, you stop doing it.

YouTube is a search engine. Of course some videos goe viral because this happens when a lot of people search for the answer that you provide in the right time and right place. But that happens only to the lucky ones or the ones who really hustle and then they get a break. Usually it is a one hit wonder and brings no real value to the channel.

You have to build your channel from scratch and accept the fact you will get only tens of views in the first few months. The speed of your growth will depend on the frequency of publishing, the quality and content. If you slack off and just publish something with a bad thumbnail, your channel will never grow. You need to really take care of it as if it was your baby. Even for a baby it takes at least 12 months for it to start walking. First they just crawl.

Should I post on Instagram?

Yes! Forget about making money online for a second. I know it is important but you have to give value to people before you start cashing out. Post Instagram stories, videos, do livestreams and stay in touch with your current clients and try to reach new people.

Once your account dies, nobody knows you exist. Online or offline. Now more than ever you need to make sure people your potential and current clients know that you are out there hustling and ready to go once they need something.
